Floyd “Jack” Fowler Jr, PhD

square FowlerJack Fowler has dedicated his life’s work to making sure the patient’s voice is heard. A social scientist specializing in survey research methods, Jack served as a senior scientific adviser for the Informed Medical Decisions Foundation from 2009 to 2017, helping to define research priorities that seek to better understand how medical decisions are made, how to activate patients to become more engaged in decisions about their care, and how to improve health outcomes, among others. He served as president of the Foundation for 7 years prior. He is currently a research adviser to IMDP.

Jack is also a senior research fellow at the Center for Survey Research at the University of Massachusetts, Boston and served as its director for 14 years. Jack has been a major contributor to research on patient outcomes and decision quality and has published extensively on these areas in journals such as JAMA, Health Affairs, and Medical Decision Making. In 2013, Jack received the “Exceptionally Distinguished Lifetime Achievement” award from the American Association of Public Opinion Research.

Jack holds a PhD in social psychology from the University of Michigan and a BA in English from Wesleyan University.
