Hena Waseem, MD

Dr. Waseem is a post-doctoral fellow at the Health Decisions Sciences Center at Massachusetts General Hospital and a neurointensivist physician. She joined Dr. Sepucha’s team to contribute to several research projects, including a PCORI-funded comparative effectiveness study focusing on pediatric ICU transitions of care surrounding tracheostomies.

Dr. Waseem’s research focuses on quantitative and qualitative healthcare systems improvement, specifically surrounding implementation science, with the goal of improvement of the patient/family experience, medical trainee experience, and standards of care for the critically ill. Utilizing a multi-disciplinary approach, her work explores ways to improve shared decision making during the critical illness phase in diverse population groups. She hopes to use this to effect positive change at all levels of the field, from patient- and hospital-level initiatives to global public health practices.

Her clinical practice is within the Neurocritical care department at UMass Memorial Medical Center where she is also an assistant professor at the T.H. Chan School of Medicine. She holds a BS in Neurosciences from University of Florida, an MD from Morsani College of Medicine, and an MPH from Dartmouth’s Geisel School of Medicine. She completed Neurology residency and Leadership and Preventive Medicine fellowship at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center and subsequently a Neurocritical Care fellowship at Stanford Medical Center.
